WRAP-OVERS

This one is going to be a little bit different… but have you ever wondered what comes to the mind of those who meet you for the very first time? What happens in the first few seconds as someone who has never seen you before lay the their eyes on you? Obviously, being here in Seville, meeting and working with new people; these are the thoughts that crossed my mind. I’ve been here a month and I’m still familiarising myself to the city, the culture and the people. Have you ever considered that before you even speak to a human being, there is already an existing expectation or perception? Just think – these thoughts cross the mind’s of strangers… And they’re solely based on your appearance.

We are all guided by our vision, attracted or repulsed by what seems appealing to us. And there’s nothing wrong with that. So, how much does our image speak for ourselves? For example, changing my hair colour to this colour was something extremely new to me. Not to mention, I have tried far too long to get to this colour and after several attempts, the 2-day ordeal can only be narrowed down to one word: chaos. I won’t hide the fact that seeing myself in the mirror, makes me have a completely different approach to myself. It makes me want to dress differently, look at people differently, sometimes even act differently. So, this small change in my appearance, is indirectly leading me to become someone new and is also allowing me to make small changes through my words and actions. I think both our body and mind work together and serve each other.

You’re probably questioning what is the purpose of all this… I’ll let you in on a little secret – There isn’t one. It’s something that has been in my thoughts since arriving in Spain. The influence of my manager, Rosalia Zahino –  her flamboyant flamenco style and elaborate designs, definitely play a part in my perceptions. I often go to work and think “Am I a bit under dressed for this department” or “Does my style fit in to all this” – It baffles me. Don’t worry, I will introduce my working environment soon! Most of you may know that I’m very minimalistic in my style of clothing. So, can you imagine me in a flamenco dress? Yeah… Neither can I!

It’s not a bad idea to try something different, change your style or your appearance. Complementary cuts and folds define my style of clothing. I’m very meticulous in the way I dress and portray myself… This wrap-over shirt is one of my favourite items hung up in my wardrobe and I decided to style it with these cut-out ankle boots. I hope you enjoy looking at these pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Yours sincerely, Madiya’s Wardrobe.

THE LITTLE BLUE DRESS

Hola everyone! Happy Monday! After being cooped up indoors all weekend, I’m finally out of the house and currently at work. It’s my lunch hour so I thought I’d share this post with you all. Here in Spain, people have their lunch at 3pm. So you can literally imagine my hunger right now.

Last week I went to the Festival des las Naciones held here in Seville where I wore this dress. This dress can be worn with anything – with leggings or without, with any pair of heels, flats or sneakers but I chose to style it out with my suede mules. And obviously, “when in Rome, do as the Romans do” being in this country, I had to keep up with the Spanish culture and bring out the handheld fans. But personally, I would wear this in any season. Winter is near – throw on a long coat and some ankle boots.

img_1353-2Unfortunately, the dress did not compliment the weather on this day but that’s probably due to the colour. On the other hand, the mules were very comfortable so I guess it still worked out well in the end. This dress was purchased from COS and my mules were bought from Topshop. I know what you’re thinking, “wow, a change from Zara”. Sadly, the dress isn’t available in stock any more but you can still purchase the suede mules in a sky blue colour.

Yours sincerely, Madiya’s Wardrobe
